Federica Cantelmi vince la borsa “Amazon Women in Innovation” 2020 per Ingegneria Tor Vergata

Federica Cantelmi, matricola del corso di laurea in Ingegneria Informatica, raggiunta oggi al telefono dopo due giorni di esami, racconta la sua bellissima storia da vincitrice “Tor Vergata” della borsa di studio “Amazon Women in Innovation

 

La sua storia è stata raccontata in primis da Amazon News, da cui veniamo a sapere anche che una delle tre mentor Amazon (ovviamente non quella di Federica), che seguiranno le vincitrici della borsa nel loro percorso, si è laureata da noi in Ingegneria delle Telecomunicazioni.

 

Buongiorno Federica, innanzi tutto complimenti! Come è venuta a sapere di questo bando?
Il prof. Grassi in classe, nel corso di Fondamenti di Informatica, ci ha informato di questa opportunità, invitandoci a partecipare. Il prof ci ha sempre parlato del fatto che anche se sono poche, le ragazze devono spingere! Ci ha raccontato di quando ha cominciato lui e c’erano pochissime ragazze…

Secondo i dati della XXII Indagine 2020 – AlmaLaurea, gli studenti di Ingegneria “Tor Vergata” che si sono laureati alla triennale nel 2019 sono per il 68,9% ragazzi e per il 31,1% ragazze, con un buon incremento di queste ultime negli ultimi anni. Solo 4 anni fa, nel 2016, infatti, le ragazze al termine della triennale erano il 25,8%.

È stata solo lei ad applicare al bando?
Quando ho consegnato la documentazione, dall’università mi hanno detto che ero la prima.

Che cosa le hanno detto invece da Amazon
Sono stati loro a chiamarmi e mi hanno detto che avevo vinto. Quando ci siamo sentiti, mi hanno spiegato come è strutturata Amazon. Mi hanno poi spiegato perché hanno pensato a questa iniziativa nata lo scorso anno.

Amazon le ha detto: un premio per le donne. Perché?
Il loro è un progetto indirizzato soprattutto alle donne: cercare di incentivare le ragazze a scegliere questo tipo di percorsi scientifici e quindi permettere di poter scegliere in futuro una donna che abbia avuto successo in queste discipline. Probabilmente è dovuto al voler dimostrare che anche le donne possono arrivare in alto ed essere da traino per l’innovazione.

Mi hanno detto che guardano a un futuro con più donne nelle imprese.

Come la guiderà la mentor di Amazon?
Farà con me un percorso in cui mi fornirà alcune skills in ambito lavorativo e in futuro inizieremo anche a preparare il curriculum e faremo anche alcune simulazioni di colloqui

Ha incontrato professoresse o ricercatrici in questi pochi mesi in ateneo?
Ho incontrato la professoressa Tarantello per Analisi Matematica 1

Lei è stata davvero brava anche perché per poter partecipare al bando ha dovuto sostenere alcuni esami con la media almeno del 27, secondo quanto era richiesto.
Ho dato solamente due esami: Geometria e Fondamenti di Informatica. E il bando è rinnovabile, sì, ma entro il 30 settembre dovrò aver maturato almeno 40 crediti

Significa che rimanere in regola per poter continuare a godere della borsa di studio nei prossimi anni non sarà banale
Non la vedo banale, perché lunedì e ieri ho fatto due esami e mi sto ancora riprendendo, ma mi manca ancora Analisi Matematica che è un esame da 12 crediti, fondamentale per arrivare ai 40 crediti… certo la borsa di studio non mi sta forzando a dover dare gli esami: già ero intenzionata a dare gli esami dell’anno in tempo. Ma diciamo che è un po’ da stimolo!

Ok, parliamo del futuro: siamo davvero all’inizio del percorso universitario, però citando nuovamente AlmaLaurea oltre il 90% dei laureati alla triennale prosegue con la magistrale. Lei che vorrà fare?
Ho scelto Ingegneria Informatica per poter proseguire con una magistrale in Cyber Security e immagino in futuro di lavorare in quel campo.

Una passione sin da ragazzina che si mette in gioco né si fa intimorire dalla tecnologia, affiancando a volte il babbo con i circuiti, secondo quanto possiamo leggere in AmazonNews…
Sì mi sono interessata sin da piccola. Poi ho scelto Ingegneria Informatica perché a scuola, il liceo scientifico all’Istituto Croce-Aleramo di Roma, ho avuto un primo approccio alla programmazione con un progetto di robotica: ci guidavano quelli del quinto che partecipavano alle gare di robotica di Rome Cup

Ah, e il circuito del trenino non l’ho fatto io da sola, ma sempre con mio padre!

Torniamo ad Amazon e al premio…
Mi hanno chiamato loro e così ho saputo di aver vinto. Credevo la notizia sarebbe rimasta tra noi, invece con i primi articoli mi sono un po’ imbarazzata perché a me piace vivere un po’ “nel mio”. Vincere così all’inizio del primo semestre all’università e la successiva visibilità è stato un pochino scioccante per me. Con la borsa di studio pagherò le tasse universitarie e comprerò libri e sicuramente metterò qualcosa da parte.

Magari per un’esperienza Erasmus?
No, attualmente l’Erasmus non è tra i miei progetti…

Ha pensato ad Amazon come futura sede di lavoro?
Magari sarebbe interessante farci un tirocinio…

Le va di fare un appello alle ragazze interessate alle discipline STEM?
Non vedo perché una ragazza si debba sentire intimorita in queste discipline: abbiamo le stesse capacità dei ragazzi… di più, a volte! (aggiunge sorridendo)
